Common terms used;
Bandas: 1,2 or 3 bed accommodation built in traditional style, usually round, often made of traditional materials, with or without toilet facilities.
Budget: Seeking low-priced, simple but clean accommodation with local food or self catering facilities.
Camping: Sleeping outdoors using tents.
Campsite: A specified cleared area set aside for camping.
Canoe: Wood, metal or fiberglass boat propelled by paddles, for 1-4 persons.
Canteen: Shop selling basic provisions including meals and drinks.
Ecotourism: "Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and sustains the well-being of local people" - International Ecotourism Society.
Launch: A large boat for water transport for more than 20 persons.
Lodge: A permanent structure made from brick, stone or similar materials providing accommodation, meals and other recreational activities.
Luxury tented camp: A permanent tented camp operated by a concessionaire for its clients, providing tented accommodation and permanent communal areas for up-market tourists. Tents are usually equipped with self-contained toilets and washing facilities.
Mid-range: Requiring value-for money; often family units; demanding good service with modest and clean facilities.
Motorboat: A motor-propelled boat for less than 20 people.
Picnic Sites: Designed places within protected areas for brief visitor stops, where fires may be lit (if there is a sign indicating as such) and visitors may get out of their vehicles.
Public campsite: a campsite with basic facilities (e.g. pit latrine, rubbish pit and water supply) where fires may be lit, and where any visitor may camp once they have paid the appropriate fee.
Rafting: Popular water sport using inflatable rafts, kayaks or boards to pass over rapids or down rivers.
Sport fishing: Recreational fishing on lakes or rivers from boats or from the shore for which a license is required in a protected area.
Tented camps: Simple accommodation using tents set on raised cemented or wooden bases, with or without bathing and other toilet facilities, with communal areas constructed from traditional materials.
Tree house: A structure constructed in a tree's branches used for observation or sleeping.
Up-market: Able to afford the best accommodation and food; looking for exclusive, luxurious and un-crowded facilities; requiring top quality personalized service; experienced travelers often with specialist interests.
Walking safari: Guided recreational walk in a protected area which may involve over-nighting in fly camps.
